Hobrecht Sports Art offers a fine art giclee edition printed on high quality archival canvas with archival ink, based on Dave Hobrecht's original black and white charcoal and pastel painting of LSU Tigers legend and Heisman Trophy winner, Billy Cannon.
Billy Cannon was a star of the highest magnitude at Louisiana State University in 1957, 1958 and 1959. In 1958, the halfback led LSU to its first AP National Championship. The piece, entitled "Gridiron Knights," depicts Cannon's famous 89-yard, game-winning punt return for a touchdown that lifted #1 LSU to a 7-3 victory over #3 Ole Miss on Halloween night in 1959. Cannon went on to win the Heisman Trophy that year and have his number 20 jersey retired by LSU. Cannon also starred in the old American Football League from 1959 to 1969.
Hobrecht's amazing black and white piece of Cannon was commissioned by LSU. Hobrecht painstakingly captures the lighting effect of mid-20th century flashbulb photography.
